Our History
Clipper International Corp. incorporating Clipper Trading Co Pty Ltd, was established in 1956 as an importer of a diverse range of products from around the world. As the years progressed, the company recognised the vast potential of the outdoor industry, and dedicated it's focus in 1982 to meet the growing outdoor consumer trends. This resulted in the development and growth of the now famous Australian travel and outdoor brand, Caribee. The popularity of Caribee products and growth in the Australian market allowed Clipper International to develop and expand it’s office and warehouse facilities to better cater for the growing consumer demand. Located just 3km from both the Sydney CBD and the international airport, our modern 6,000 square meter office/warehouse complex boasts the latest in technology to ensure all orders and stock is processed efficiently and effectively. In 2005 the Caribee brand was offered to the international market and we continue to create new partnerships with distributors world wide.
As well as our focus on Caribee branded products, Clipper International also operates as a distributor for international travel, sports, luggage and outdoor brands. Over the years we have introduced and distributed brands in the Australian market such as Camelbak, Wenger, Streamlight, Rider footwear, Sherpani and more. Our position as a leading wholesaler in the Australian travel and outdoor market allows us to effectively represent international brands in our market.
Our Name
Caribee’s name is derived from a South American piranha like species know scientifically as the Pygocentrus nattereri or Caribe. Its compact size masks the fact that it is a dominant and resilient species in its environment. A creature to be taken seriously. At Caribee we take this same approach.
